Thank you for considering thesportsraffle.com for your fundraiser! Raffle fundraisers are easy to run. there are a few requirements you’ll need to be familiar with before starting. Charity raffles can be an excellent way to raise money for your organization or cause, but they do come with some legal guidelines and rules. Discover the eligibility requirements for running raffle-style fundraisers. Learn more about IRS regulations for running raffle fundraisers at https://www.irs.gov/charities-non-profits/charitable-organizations/exempt-organization-sample-questions-bingo-and-gaming.
Raffles for charitable purposes may be allowed at the federal level for 501(c)(3) organizations (US) in many instances. But organizations conducting raffles must still comply with the state and local raffle laws and regulations that apply to them. These regulations make it very difficult to run an interstate raffle, and impossible to run one nationally. But for local fundraisers by 501(c)(3) organizations who qualify, raffles are a great way to raise money.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO RUN A RAFFLE?
The IRS considers raffles a form of gambling but does allow them to be run by qualified 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations. This means that all funds raised from a raffle must be sent directly to a 501(c)3 organization, and that organization must agree to take responsibility for the legal compliance of the raffle fundraiser. Please note: Online raffles are prohibited in Alabama, California, Hawaii, Kansas, Louisiana, Montana, New Jersey, Washington, and Utah. Sweepstakes are an alternative to a Raffle. If you would like to pursue a sweepstakes type promotion, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
The difference between a Raffle and a Sweepstakes is whether a purchase is a requirement for entry. Raffles have a monetary value required for entry. Sweepstakes otherwise labeled as No Purchase Necessary or Alternate Means of Entry, do not require a purchase or donation to have a chance of winning the prize(s). Allowing Sweepstakes entries in a Raffle can be accomplished, as Sweepstakes entries have specific rules and regulations regarding how and when a Sweepstakes entry will be accepted. Allowing a Raffle to also be considered a Sweepstakes will open up opportunities for Individuals to enter without purchasing an entry, when that Individual meets the Registration requirements set by your Organization. Sweepstakes also have additional benefits to your Raffle, such removing certain geographical, technological and online restrictions. If you would like to pursue a sweepstakes type promotion, please contact email@example.com.

HOW DO I FIND OUT IF I CAN RUN A RAFFLE?
The laws for raffles vary from state to state and even within states themselves. Since we are not qualified to provide legal advice, we suggest starting with a internet search on the raffle laws in your area, as some states do require a license or permit to run a raffle. This should give you the information you need to get started. You can also consult your legal counsel to ensure you are in compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
ADVERTISING AND PROMOTION:
If you plan on promoting your sweepstakes via social media, radio, television or other channels, be sure to check with each media source to ensure that you comply with their guidelines for these campaigns.
